Access Statement for guest House

 

Introduction

Carlton Court Guest House is a 6 Bedroom detached Victorian house Situated just a mile from the town centre of Torquay, all our bedrooms are on three floors, ground, half landing, and second floor . The dining room is situated on the ground floor as suitable for wheelchair users.
The owners live onsite and can be contacted via a "guest attention button" 24hrs a day ,the button is situated on the ground floor in the hall , with easy access.

 Pre-Arrival
 
• We are located about 300 meters along Cleveland Road, The main train station is Torquay which is 1.2 kilometres away, there is also a local smaller station called Tore station 1 kilometre away. 
• The closest bus stop is 600 meters away on the main road called ( The Avenue ).
• The are a number of local taxi companies the preferred company is : Torbay cars 01803 292292.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
 
• Carlton |Court has its own private car park, it has enough spaces for 6 car, all are clearly marked with illumines markings. The surface to the car park is tarmac and in very good order.
• Four of the car parking spaces are on a slit gradient, while there are two spaces at the front of the guest house which are on level ground and can be reserved if requested before arrival.
• There is also ample off road parking adjacent to the guest house.
• Assistance with Luggage is offered to all guests on arrival.

 

Main Entrance & Reception
 
• There is a main entrance to the guest house with a small steep 5cm heigh,which leads into the front porch. 
• There is a side hung door 105cm wide leading from the porch into the main hall .Where our brochures and leaflets are kept.
• Off the main hall to the left  is the office. 
• Outside the Office is a public wall mounted telephone 110cm high from the floor.
• The lighting in the main hall is lit by two large chandeliers, there is also a large standard lamp which stays on 24hrs a day to provide night light for guests.

 

Public Areas – Dining Room, (Internal)
 
• The Dining room is situated on the ground floor 6 tables and a small seating area for those wanting to read the daily papers. There is no lounge situated on the premises. The entrance door is side hung width 85cm. 
• All the public areas on this floor are carpeted

Bedrooms
 
BEDROOMS 2 & 4
• Bedroom 4 is a large double room with a 6 foot bed 55cm high, The room would not be suitable for wheel chair as there is a narrow archway into the bedroom area 80cm wide and not enough room to get a wheelchair through to the bed..
• The ensuite has a shower with folding glass door 70 cm wide. The wall mounted electric shower controls are 130cm from the shower floor.
• There is also a bath with an 18cm step up into the bath its self. There is a metal chrome hand rail to help getting in and out of bath. 
• The bathroom floor is fully tiled. And has under floor heating operated from a switch on the wall outside the ensuite.140cm from the floor.
BEDROOM 2
• Bedroom 2 is a double room with king-size bed 60cm high. The room has a wet room, which is the only room suitable for wheelchair users, which consists of a shower 90cm wide with wall mounted controls.
• The wet room is fully tiled and has under floor heating; the toilet is situated at the end of the room and has a chrome metal hand grip rail to help easy up and down.
BEDROOM 5 
• Bedroom 5 is half landing , there are 3 steps of the landing 75cm wide and 10cm high. The room has a 6 foot bed 50cm high the room is double glassed.
• The ensuite has an 80cm wide shower with shower material shower curtain. The step into the shower is 9cm high. The ensuite door is 75cm wide and side hung. 
BEDROOM 7, 8 & 9
• To access all the first floor bedrooms you climb a further 11 steps 85cm wide and 19cm high to the small landing, where there is a light switch and fire extinguisher. All the bedrooms on this floor have access via a side hung doors, 75cm wide.
Bedroom 9 has a 6 foot bed and ensuite with a standard size bath with Shower control over the bath 140cm from the bath floor. The ensuite has a tiled floor, There is a chrome hand rail to help get in and out of the bath.
• Bedroom 8 has a king-size bed, the ensuite has a shower cubical 80cm in size with a 20cm step into the shower, the cubical has two sliding glass doors and the controls are 150cm from the floor. The whole ensuite has a tiled floor.
• Bedroom 7 has a small threshold 4cm high by 75cm wide, this room is a suite and has a lounge area with 2 bucket chairs 
• The bedroom has a 6"6 bed that is 60cm high, The room is very well lit. 
• The ensuite has a shower over the bath, To gain access to the ensuite there is a small 8cm step and the door is 75cm wide. There is a chrome hard rail grip to aid getting in and out of bath. The controls for shower is a mixer with the bath taps. There is also a shower curtain.  

• All rooms have Flat screen TV's with Freeview and all have remote controls.

• All rooms have hair dryers, shoe shine, and radios.

• All rooms have tea and coffee making facilities

• All rooms have mini fridge

• All rooms have fresh milk every day.

• All rooms have luxury bath robs

 

Grounds and Gardens
 
• The Guests are welcome to use the private garden, which can be accessed via the basement dining room, via a 75cm door. or access can be gained to the garden via the car park there are 11 steps 100cm wide and vary from 19cm 25cm high, the steps and highlighted with white paint to aid use.
• The mature garden has a number of garden benches and tables, as well as a crazy paved path around the garden; guests are advised that during sometimes of the year the surfaces can be slippery. The garden is not suitable to people that have difficulty in climbing steps or wheel chairs.

• we have an Emergency fire lighting system on all floors and alarm.
• There is a wireless Internet access which is accessible in all rooms.
• We are happy to cater for any special dietary requirements for guests with notice.
